New York officials confirm shark attack off Fire Island

Islip, New York--- Officials have confirmed one of two children bitten in the leg off New York's Fire Island was bitten by a shark. The state Department of Environmental Conservation says a tooth fragment removed from a 13-year-old boy's leg is consistent with a shark's tooth, but it could not determine what species of shark due to the tooth's condition. Officials could not confirm Thursday if the fish that bit a 12-year-old girl a few minutes before the boy at Sailors Haven beach was also a shark. Both children were bitten Wednesday, prompting officials to temporarily close the beaches. The children are expected to fully recover. Armed with filming devices and gadgets, men embarrass tourists who do the "walk of shame" by posting clips on a Facebook page called Maga Walk of Shame Official. Indonesia police shoot dead 11 petty criminals in Asian Games crackdown

Indonesian police have shot and killed 11 suspected small-time criminals and wounded dozens more in a crackdown before it hosts the Asian Games next month, authorities said Tuesday. Some 52 suspects have been shot after resisting arrest in the capital Jakarta since the start of July, with 11 dying of their wounds, police said. "They were endangering the public because they resisted arrest," said Jakarta police spokesman Argo Yuwono. More than 2,000 suspected criminals have been arrested in the past few weeks, he added.
