Wall Street titan Goldman Sachs ‘cheated’ Malaysia: PM

SINGAPORE, Singapore --- Goldman Sachs "cheated" Malaysia, its leader Mahathir Mohamad said, after two former bankers from the Wall Street titan were charged over a scandal that allegedly saw billions looted from state coffers. The US Justice Department unveiled criminal charges this month against ex-Goldman bankers Tim Leissner and Ng Chong Hwa, accusing them of working with a Malaysian financier to launder huge sums allegedly stolen from sovereign wealth fund 1MDB. They are accused of involvement in a sophisticated fraud linked to former leader Najib Razak, allegations that played a big factor in the shock defeat of his long-ruling government at polls in May. EU workers leave UK in record numbers as Brexit looms

LONDON --- Brexit is already having an impact on Britain's labor market, with the number of people from the European Union working in the country falling by a record amount. The Office for National Statistics said Tuesday the number of EU nationals working in Britain fell by 132,000 in the three months to September compared with the year before, to 2.25 million. That's the largest annual fall since comparable records began in 1997. Some decline would be expected given economic improvements elsewhere in the EU over the past couple of years. However, it appears that the vote to leave the EU in June 2016 has had an impact as well. Not only did it lead to a sharp fall in the pound, ...Keep on reading: EU workers leave UK in record numbers as Brexit looms.....»»

Generika-Ayala upsets F2 Logistics

Generika-Ayala scored a major upset when it defeated F2 Logistics, 19-25, 25-22, 25-16, 28-26, to notch its first win in the Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference Tuesday at the Filoil Flying V Centre. Patty Orendain spearheaded the attack for the Lifesavers, who bravely turned a 21-24 disadvantage in the fourth set into a shocking win over a fluid and very disciplined Cargo Movers squad. Orendain tallied 18 points and 10 receptions while skipper Angeli Araneta added 15 markers to hand Generika-Ayala its first win in four matches. “Our hard work really paid off,” said Generika-Ayala head coach Sherwin Meneses, who drew impressive performance from Mika Lopez, Fiola Ceballos and Marivic Meneses. "After three losses, we still kept going. I told the team to just be patient and continue working hard.” He said he kept on telling his wards that they are capable of making a strong run if they will keep on working hard. “We know that we will have our time so we didn’t give up,” he said, adding that their strong services threw the Cargo Movers off their comfort zone. "We’re happy that we stuck to our game plan.” Michelle Morente delivered14 points while Cha Cruz-Behag had 11 markers and Aby Marano, Ara Galang and Majoy Baron each had 10 markers for the Cargo Movers, who suffered a rare back-to-back setback. PBA: Durham says Bolts will keep do-or-die mentality

ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal --- The knockout games finally stopped for Meralco but the winning has not. Prior to making the Governors' Cup semifinals for a third straight season, the Bolts survived a record six straight knockout games. Do-or-die situations naturally stopped for now as Meralco started its best-of-5 series against the Alaska Aces but the Bolts have kept that mentality of fighting for their season. It still works as Meralco took Game 1 Sunday at the Ynares Center here and are officially two games away from having another shot at its first PBA championship. "It is kinda nice to relax a little bit but we don't want to relax [too much]," reigning two-time Best Import Allen Durham said on the Bolts' much-needed break from knockout games. "It's been working for us, to keep the intensity up and keep playing the way we've been playing so we're gonna keep trying that [do-or-die] mentality that we've been having the past few games," he added. Durham and the rest of the Meralco team are definitely rolling right now. After a near-disastrous losing skid, the Bolts have piled up quality wins and are looking like the best team remaining this season. Whether or not their current winning streak actually leads to a title remains to be seen but the Bolts are ready to find out. "I think we're in a groove right now," Durham said. "Everybody's peaking at the right time. We're playing well right now so hopefully we just keep going and ride this winning streak out for as long as we can," he added.   --- Follow this writer on Twitter, @paullintag8.....»»
